SPOKEN:

I see you sittin’ across from me and I wonder do you see what I see?

I’m thinking: Wow, there’s a beautiful, there’s a beautiful woman.

And you’re thinking:  Look how cool he looks.

Now I’ve been drinking a little bit so I was thinking I was gonna drive you to my place, you know, but I shouldn’t be driving to my place.  So, I would like it if you would consider driving me home to your place.  Would you take me home, baby?  Would you take me home?

WOMAN:  I see you sitting there.  You shouldn’t stare.  You just wanna be right next to me, right next to me.

CHORUS:  Take me home, sweet angel.  Take me home.

Now the bartender’s looking at me thinking what’s this guy gonna do.  He’s just sitting there looking at that woman across the way.  Should I call the police.  No, no, no.  Don’t call the police.  Honey, would you just please read my mind and take me home?

WOMAN:  We can’t be alone. Let’s both go home and start a roaring fire.  How will we know if we feel desire?

CHORUS:  Take me home, sweet angel.  Take me home.

WOMAN:  Now is the time to make our move, to make our move.  Now here we go.  I won’t say no.  The time has come for our affair.

CHORUS:  Take me home, sweet angel.  Take me home.

Spoken by Bartender:  Hey John, you taken a taxi home tonight?

inside track
This song is about a man in a bar who drank too much and started fantasizing about a woman sitting across from him.  He even imagines her responding to his purely mental pick-up lines.  In fact, she’s probably not even looking at him.  For the longest time, “Take Me Home”, was simply an instrumental which sounded a bit like New-Age Celtic music.  The instrumental version was played over and over again, but the lyrics didn’t come easily.  Finally, we started to improvise some vocals just for fun.  Someone said the song was starting to sound like a country tune and so Karen Oliver stepped in to add a female counterpart.

REVIEWS

“Take Me Home” is a melancholic pop-gospel tune, focusing on a life’s journey toward love – which recalls the album’s sweetest, most open-hearted joys alongside Elvista. She’s replaced here by a small group of female vocalists, to similar effect. Jones also returns with a stratospheric turn on the violin.
