I’m always so damn happy and I always spread good news
But baby there is something
deep down in me
That loves to cry the blues –
baby, won’t you cry with me
There is something ‘bout the
blues that makes me wanna weep
I love the journey inward
where it’s dirty, dark and deep
I love to feel the blues
just flowing through my bones
Love to hear the wail of
that old dirty blues saxophone
Play it for me…
This is how I feel…
Now I every time you hear me
singing ‘bout the way I feel
You’ll know that what you’re
hearing is what I think is real
And if it’s not real, who
cares what you’re believing
For me it doesn’t get much better
–
Baby, singing the blues is just
like breathing, in and out now
Let me hear some of that
blues…
…I’m feeling the blues
I love the flowers, I love
the dirt
Baby, don’t you know I love
when it hurts
I sing the blues…
Well, I love the good
things, I love the bad
Honey I love to be happy,
but I do love to be sad
I love the blues - I could
sing the blues all night and day
When I sing the blues I want
you to go,
But baby I want you to stay…
When I sing the blues I want
you to go,
But baby I want you to stay

Piano is one of the instruments common place throughout the album and
gets it's own chance to shine when played by Daryl Davis on the track
"Breathing Blues". It's like the piano is an extension of John's soul and finally gets to run free as the love letter to the genre plays out.

Nicole dives into “Breathing Blues,” a soulful harmonica-driven number.

This is my least favorite of John Nicole's great music, but maybe it is
because I'm not a big blues fan. I like the lyrics...this is a man of
great lyrics and words. The haromonics were a bit sharp. I just don't
like the feel of it...but the instrumentation is excellent.
