"Au-dela des Mots" (Beyond Words)
Written by John Nicole
Additional Lyrics by Nadia Elvista
All I know is how I feel well beyond what words to say (Au-dela des mots)
I believe (Oui je croix) it must be real (Que c’est vrai)
I’ve never felt this way (Pour la premiere fois)
Par la plume a la main
Je t’écris meme de très loin
Mais comment te dire
Comment former les mots
Qui vont pourvoir décrire
Ce qui se resent dans un Coeur qui veux s’ouvrir
My song is so simply sung to you
No verse or chorus, in my way
My heart plays out a deep consistent rhythm
Can you feel the beat - not what I say?
S’que je sais (all I know) S’que j’resent (what I feel)
Au-dela des mots (what words to say)
Oui je croix (I believe) que c’est vrai (must be real)
Pour la premiere foisBy the pen in my hand
I’m writing you from far away
But just how to say, just how to form the words
That will reveal what is deep inside
Treasured in this heart of mine.
All I know (S’que je sais) is what I feel (S’que j’resent)
Well beyond what words to say (Au-dela des mots)
I believe (Oui je croix) it must be real (Que c’est vrai)
I’ve never felt this way (Pour la premiere fois)
INSTRUMENTAL
My song is so simply sung to you
No verse or chorus, in my way
My heart plays out a deep consistent rhythm
Can you feel the beat - not what I say?
All I know is what I feel
(Tous s’que j’sais c’est c’que j’resent)
Well beyond what words to say
(Au-dela des mots a dire)
I believe it must be real
I BELIEVE, I BELIEVE
(Oui je croix, Oui je croix)
In you….
MUSIC OF JOHN NICOLE
inside track This song was co-written and sung by Nadia Elvista (right) who joined me at a recording studio in Memphis for a somewhat impromptu session. I'm sure you'll agree that she has a wonderfully soulful voice and is perfect for this song. Hopefully, there will be more to come from her.
Listen to the original "scratch" version of the song:
Nadia Elvista, a singer whom Nicole says lives in a homeless shelter in Memphis, Tennessee, guests on a delicately constructed vocal duet called “Au-Dela Des Mots (Beyond Words),” contributing additional lyrics, as well. She brings a stark spiritual complexity to the song, which has an old-world gypsy feel at times, even as she conveys all of the shattering hard times she must have seen. Elvista then returns for Nicole’s quietly effective update of “Love Me Tender,” the great old Elvis Presley hit, and once again she’s a wonder of furtive sensuality.
